Franchises and Maximising Profits

One way a company maximises its profits when making a film is franchising, often if something entertain ably successful is made then no doubt there will be this in all different forms. It used to be that if there were a very successfully book then a film company would turn it into a film, but with today range in of media then it could be a game like silent hill or Resident evil that gets turned into a film; A book getting turned into a film then a game; or like the Simpson a TV show getting turn in to games, comics films ect.

Often which is what the creators of the Simpsons  have done is make the film themselves but as a busy company they may not have the facility or time to make a such thing as a game so they sell the right to making a game of the Simpson to another company for a share of the profits this is franchising.
